Bird of Paradise

A young sailor goes overboard in the South Seas, and Luana (Dolores del Río), the daughter of a Polynesian king, dives in after him. Johnny Baker (Joel McCrea) owes her his life, and King Vidor follows the two of them into a romance that her promise to another man does not stop. Late in the film a volcano stands over the island, and its smoke hangs above the lovers.
