In the McNally household, a child who lost her sight and hearing to illness has grown into a girl who lashes out because no one can reach her. Debraj Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan), an eccentric and heavy-drinking tutor, is brought in to teach Michelle (Ayesha Kapoor), and Sanjay Leela Bhansali stages their first lessons as open fights. Michelle (Rani Mukerji) is the young woman at the centre, learning a world she cannot see or hear, one stubborn lesson at a time.
