A singer is found murdered, and the man convicted of killing her is not the one who did it. His wife Catherine (June Vincent) goes looking for the truth with Martin (Dan Duryea), a drunk composer and pianist who happens to be the dead woman's husband. Roy William Neill, in his last feature, sets them against a city where the clock keeps running toward a man's execution.
