Black Beauty

“A story for all ages. A friendship for all time. Share the adventure.”

In the English countryside of Anna Sewell's 1877 novel, a young black colt grows up under Farmer Grey (Sean Bean) and learns the work of a horse among people. Black Beauty tells his own story in the voice of Alan Cumming, passing from one owner to the next, including the cabman Jerry Barker (David Thewlis). Caroline Thompson, in her first film as director, lets the horse narrate and keeps the story at his level.
