Black Coal, Thin Ice

Zhang Zili (Liao Fan) is a former cop whose career ended with a string of murders in which parts of a body turned up at coal plants. When the killings start again, he and his old partner Wang (Wang Xuebing) go back to the case. Diao Yinan follows the trail toward Wu Zhizhen (Gwei Lun-Mei), and the film closes on a single image: a winter city lit by snow and by the glare of coal.
