Black Jack (Akio Otsuka) is a surgeon with no license and a reputation for operating where the finest surgeons in the field refuse to try. His assistant Pinoko (Yuko Mizutani) works beside him as he takes on the hardest case of his career, one that tests what medical science can do. Osamu Dezaki frames the operations in stark, high-contrast animation, and the film holds its tension in the cuts and the waiting.
