“Keep your enemies close.”

Whitey Bulger (Johnny Depp) is a South Boston crime boss whose brother sits in the state senate, and he agrees to inform for the FBI so he can bring down the Mafia family moving in on his turf. His childhood friend John Connolly (Joel Edgerton), now an FBI agent, brokers the arrangement and promises him protection. Scott Cooper follows Bulger through the 1970s and 80s, a man who now answers to no one and begins to believe it.
