Black Robe

“In the winter of 1634, an extraordinary man began a perilous journey into the North American wilderness.”

Father Laforgue (Lothaire Bluteau), a young Jesuit, sets out by canoe with a party of Algonquins to reach a distant mission in New France, some 2,400 kilometers of hard wilderness away. Bruce Beresford follows the journey as Laforgue clings to his strict rules, and the Algonquins, who call him Black Robe, watch him warily. Their guide Chomina (August Schellenberg) paddles on, and the black cassock stays the only dark shape on the water.
