Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman) has given everything to her place in a New York ballet company, and she wants the lead in Swan Lake more than anything. Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) casts her, then says she can dance the fragile White Swan but not the sensual Black Swan, a part that suits her new rival Lily (Mila Kunis). Darren Aronofsky stays close on Nina as she practices, her feet raw, her reflection in the studio mirror never quite matching her.
