Black Venus

Saartjie Baartman (Yahima Torres) leaves South Africa for London in the early 19th century with her master, Hendrick Caezar (André Jacobs), still hoping to make a name as an artist. Instead she is put on display as a sideshow attraction, shown to paying crowds for her body. Abdellatif Kechiche holds the camera on Torres's face, where the weight of every look in the room settles.
