“At Last, A Sportsman The British Can Be Proud Of”

Cliff Starkey (Paul Kaye) is a working-class lawn bowls player with an exceptional talent, living in the clubhouse world of Britain's bowls greens. Mel Smith follows him as he becomes regional champion and gets banned from the sport, then returns to it with an agent and a crowd behind him. The Bowls Committee has lifted the ban, and Cliff has to find his form and win back his friends to take on the Aussies.
