“For anyone who has ever wanted to dream. You're not alone.”

Javed (Viveik Kalra) is a British-Pakistani teenager in Luton in 1987, writing poems nobody reads while Thatcher's Britain closes in around him. A cassette of Bruce Springsteen from his friend Roops (Aaron Phagura) gives him words for what he has been feeling, and Gurinder Chadha lets the lyrics rise across the screen. Javed's father Malik (Kulvinder Ghir) wants a quiet, obedient son, and the two keep missing each other.
