“A boy's journey. A mother's love. Miles of burning city between them.”

George (Elliott Heffernan) is nine years old and mixed-race, a London boy whose mother, Rita (Saoirse Ronan), puts him on an evacuation train to the countryside to keep him away from the bombing. He doesn't want to be there, and he gets off the train. Steve McQueen follows him on the long way back to the city and the mother already out looking for him, a boy too stubborn to stay put.
