Norma Jeane (Ana de Armas) grows up in a volatile household and wants, more than anything, to be loved. The film follows her as she becomes Marilyn Monroe, with Andrew Dominik working from Joyce Carol Oates's novel and mixing invented scenes into the known record. It sets the woman the public sees against the woman who goes home, and shows how far apart the two have come.
