Blonde Venus

(1932)Directed by Josef von Sternberg93 minDrama
“What could she do but flee from love? She loved two men at once!”

In the early 1930s, Helen Faraday (Marlene Dietrich), a retired German entertainer, lives in America with her husband Ned (Herbert Marshall) and their young son. When Ned falls gravely ill and the cure costs more than they have, she returns to the stage as the Blonde Venus, where a wealthy politician, Nick Townsend (Cary Grant), notices her. Josef von Sternberg builds the story on a mother's love for her child and what she will give up to keep her family alive.
