Bloody Spear at Mount Fuji

(1955)Directed by Tomu Uchida94 minDrama, Adventure

In the Edo period, the samurai Sakawa Kojūrō (Eijirō Kataoka) travels toward Edo with two servants, the spear-carrier Genpachi (Chiezo Kataoka) and Genta (Daisuke Katō). Tomu Uchida lets them fall in with whoever the road offers, including a policeman chasing a thief, a young child, and a woman about to be sold into prostitution. Each stranger gets a stretch of the journey, and the film treats the people who walk past a master and his servants as worth following.
