“It's the nearest thing to Heaven!”

Jed Potter (Fred Astaire) is a dancer who wants Mary O'Hara (Joan Caulfield), a showgirl who has her eye on someone else. That someone is Johnny Adams (Bing Crosby), a man who opens a nightclub, loses interest, and moves on to the next one. Stuart Heisler shoots the story in Technicolor and sets it to Irving Berlin's songs, most of them borrowed from his earlier work.
