“It's a strange world, isn't it?”

Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) comes home from college and finds a severed human ear in a field. The police file it away, so he starts looking on his own, and the search leads to Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), a nightclub singer whose child has been taken by a man named Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper). David Lynch pulls Jeffrey in past the point where he could stop, and he keeps going anyway.
