Bluebeard

(1944)Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer72 minCrime, Thriller, Horror
“The most sinister love story ever told!”

Young women who sit as models are turning up strangled in Paris, and Inspector Renard (George Pembroke) and Inspector Lefevre (Nils Asther) have little to go on. Edgar G. Ulmer follows the hunt through puppet shows and painters' studios, where the puppeteer Gaston Morrell (John Carradine) moves among the people the police question. When Lucille (Jean Parker) draws close to him, the film turns to what lies between a gentle, courteous man and the woman who trusts him.
