Boat People

Shiomi Akutagawa (George Lam Tsz-cheung), a Japanese photojournalist, returns to Vietnam after the liberation to document the country, though the officials who guide him show only what they want shown. He starts following the children of a poor family, among them Cam Nuong (Season Ma), and what his camera finds beyond the approved route is what he came for. Ann Hui, filming in mainland China, keeps her camera low and plain, without ornament.
