Rebecca Carlson (Madonna) is on trial for the death of her lover, an elderly millionaire who left her $8 million and died with cocaine in his system. The prosecution argues she used sex as the weapon, and defense attorney Frank Dulaney (Willem Dafoe) takes her case. Uli Edel follows the lawyer and his client as they leave the courtroom and begin an affair of their own.
