“NOW HE'S A FUGITIVE FROM A FEMALE SCARFACE”

In 1935, on the Mexican-American border, Johnny Ramirez (Paul Muni) is a hungry young man with a law degree who ends up working the floor of a casino owned by Charlie Roark (Eugene Pallette). Archie Mayo follows him as he gets drawn toward Charlie's restless, neurotic wife Marie (Bette Davis). Everything Johnny has built and everything he has dragged along from where he came from is riding on staying clear of her.
