“Never underestimate the power of an underestimated woman.”

Harry Brock (John Goodman), a loud scrap-metal millionaire, brings his showgirl girlfriend Billie Dawn (Melanie Griffith) to Washington, and her manners embarrass him in front of the people he needs. So he hires the journalist Paul Verrall (Don Johnson) to teach her how to talk and what to read. Luis Mandoki sets it among hotel suites and Capitol dinners, where each new word Billie learns puts Harry's deals at risk.
