Boxcar Bertha

(1972)Directed by Martin Scorsese89 min · RCrime, Drama
“Life made her an outcast. Love made her an outlaw.”

Arkansas in the early 1930s is a place of dust, rail yards and violence, and Bertha Thompson (Barbara Hershey) drifts through it with nothing to her name. She meets the union organizer Big Bill Shelly (David Carradine), and the two of them set out against the railroad bosses who run the region. Martin Scorsese, in his second feature, shot it fast and cheap for Roger Corman.
