Boyhood

“12 years in the making.”

Mason (Ellar Coltrane) is six, and his divorced mother (Patricia Arquette) is moving him and his sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater) to a new house, with Dad (Ethan Hawke) turning up on weekends. Richard Linklater shot the film a few weeks at a time from 2002 to 2014, so the same cast ages for real, first grade through the start of college. The film treats growing up as the ordinary days that add up, with no single moment marking when a boy becomes someone else.
