Boyz n the Hood

“Once upon a time in South Central L.A. ... It ain't no fairy tale.”

Nobody in the neighborhood can say why the same ending keeps arriving for the boys on these South Central blocks. Tré Styles (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is sent to live with his father Furious (Laurence Fishburne), who teaches him how to be a man in a place that doesn't make it easy. John Singleton's debut puts Tré beside Ricky (Morris Chestnut) and Doughboy (Ice Cube), friends who share the same streets and pull toward different futures.
