“Going home never felt so good.”

Why does Willie (Rocky McKenzie) leave the Broome of fishing, mates and his girl for a religious mission school, and what makes him run from it? Rachel Perkins adapts Jimmy Chi's stage musical, set in 1965, with Father Benedictus (Geoffrey Rush) running the mission and Rosie (Jessica Mauboy) waiting back home. Willie sets out on the long road toward Broome, a teenager moving through sun and dust, singing as he goes.
