In 1960 Paris, Michel Poiccard (Jean-Paul Belmondo) steals a car and shoots a motorcycle policeman on a country road. With the law after him, he finds Patricia Franchini (Jean Seberg), the American girl he knows, and tries to talk her into running away to Italy with him. Jean-Luc Godard, making his first feature, films it fast and loose, cutting through scenes as if the story couldn't wait.
