Why is Niki Douka (Victoria Haralabidou) so busy on the crossing from Greece to America? She is a seamstress from Samothraki bound for a marriage contract, and the third-class women aboard keep handing her wedding dresses to alter. Pantelis Voulgaris sets the ship in 1922 and puts Norman Harris (Damian Lewis) in her path. Each of these women is a stranger to the man she is sailing toward, and the dress is the only part of the marriage they get to choose.
