Laura Jesson (Celia Johnson) is a suburban housewife who wants nothing more from her Thursdays than a shopping trip and the train home. Then a stranger, Dr. Alec Harvey (Trevor Howard), helps her with a speck of grit in her eye, and they begin meeting each week.
