Pinkie Brown (Richard Attenborough) is a vicious young hoodlum who leads a gang of petty criminals in Brighton between the wars. Under John Boulting's direction, he runs his men through the back streets and bars of the seaside town, with Dallow (William Hartnell) and Spicer (Wylie Watson) always close behind. Attenborough plays him thin and tight-lipped, a boy in a dark suit whose face gives away nothing.
