Brink of Life

Three women share a maternity ward, and each is facing motherhood on her own terms: Cecilia (Ingrid Thulin), married to Anders (Erland Josephson), Stina (Eva Dahlbeck), and the young Hjördis (Bibi Andersson). Nurse Brita (Barbro Hiort af Ornäs) moves among their beds, and each woman's private crisis comes out in the room. Bergman keeps the camera close and the setting small, letting the three of them fill it.
