“You have waited seven years for this!”

Irene Foster (Eleanor Powell) is a gifted dancer, and the producer who might notice her is Robert Gordon (Robert Taylor), her childhood sweetheart, who looks straight past her. He is busy feuding with a dirt-dishing gossip columnist, so it falls to his wisecracking secretary and Irene herself to get his attention. Roy Del Ruth keeps the Broadway of 1935 loud and full of wisecracks, and Jack Benny's Bert Keeler is at the center of it.
