“Sometimes life brings some strange surprises”

A pink envelope arrives for Don Johnston (Bill Murray), an aging bachelor on his couch, with an unsigned letter saying a son he never knew about may be coming to find him. His neighbor, an amateur detective, plans the trip, and Don sets out across the country to visit four old lovers, including Laura (Sharon Stone) and Carmen (Jessica Lange). Jim Jarmusch leaves Don at the end of each visit alone in a rental car, still holding the letter.
