“Two countries, two loves, one heart”

Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) has a job offer in Brooklyn, a boat ticket, and no clear reason she should be the one sent across the ocean from Enniscorthy. She crosses in the early 1950s, and John Crowley follows her through homesick nights and a courtship with Tony Fiorello (Emory Cohen). Then she is pulled back toward home and Jim Farrell (Domhnall Gleeson), and the film is about how a person can belong to two countries and have to live in only one.
