“When did you first fall in love with hip-hop?”

Sidney Shaw (Sanaa Lathan) has loved hip-hop since she watched it come alive on a New York street corner as a kid, and now she's a respected music critic at a national magazine. Her oldest friend Dre (Taye Diggs) stood beside her that day, and he's become a record company executive at a label that pays well and leaves him restless. Rick Famuyiwa leaves them where that corner began, two kids on the pavement, the music still new.
