Buck and the Preacher

“The fight was against the raiders... but the feud was between themselves!”

Buck (Sidney Poitier) is a wagon master who leads freed slaves west, a job that has made him an enemy of the night riders paid to drag them back to cheap labor. He gets help from a fast-talking preacher (Harry Belafonte) who cons strangers for a living, and the two make a wary pair. Poitier, directing for the first time, keeps Buck steady and watchful, a man who has stopped expecting anyone to look after him.
