“First they send in their drone... then they find their queen.”

Agnes White (Ashley Judd) waits tables in Oklahoma and lives in a dilapidated roadside motel, where the phone keeps ringing with no one on the line. Then she meets Peter Evans (Michael Shannon), a quiet drifter who lets her take him in, though nobody can say exactly where he came from. William Friedkin keeps the camera inside the one cramped room, Agnes and Peter at the center of it, and the walls feel closer every time the phone rings.
