Buoyancy

“The day you lose hope, is the day you will die.”

Chakra (Sarm Heng) is a boy from a Cambodian farming family who wants to leave home and earn real money in the city. A broker sells him to a Thai fishing trawler, where he is enslaved among other captives. As the crew tortures and kills the men around him, he starts to wonder whether the only way off the boat is to become as violent as his captors. Rodd Rathjen keeps the camera on the cramped deck and the faces of the crew, so there is no room to look away.
