Burnt by the Sun

(1994)Directed by Nikita Mikhalkov135 min · RDrama
“A moving and poignant story set against the corrupt politics of the Stalinist era.”

Colonel Kotov (Nikita Mikhalkov), a revolutionary hero, is spending a summer at his dacha in 1936 when his wife's cousin Dmitri (Oleg Menshikov) turns up from Moscow, and Kotov alone suspects this is no social call. Dmitri charms the women and the six-year-old Nadia with games and piano. Mikhalkov, who also directs, sets it all in the house and its fields, where Nadia (Nadezhda Mikhalkova) runs through the grass and the family sits at long tables in the heat.
