“Four people... Three minutes... Two choices... One chance for survival.”

A single warhead, fired by Soviet insurgents angry at the Cold War winding down, wipes out the Ukrainian city of Donetsk. Jack Sholder follows the panic that spreads through Washington and Moscow, with Cassidy (Powers Boothe) and the President (Martin Landau) trying to keep two militaries from answering in kind. It is a story about how little separates a bad day from the end of the world, and how much of that gap is made of tired people reading orders.
