In the late 1970s, the Caravana Rolidei rolls into a small town, and Lorde Cigano (José Wilker) takes the microphone while Salomé (Betty Faria) dances and the mute Andorinha does feats of strength. Ciço (Fábio Júnior), a young accordion player in love with Salomé, begs to come along, and he and his pregnant wife Dasdô (Zaira Zambelli) join the troupe. Carlos Diegues follows the caravan toward Altamira, and the dust stays on its truck.
