Cabin in the Sky

(1943)Directed by Vincente Minnelli98 minMusic, Fantasy, Comedy
“At Last on the Screen! The Musical Comedy Sensation!”

In a Black Southern community in 1943, Little Joe Jackson (Eddie "Rochester" Anderson) gambles and drinks, and his devout wife Petunia (Ethel Waters) keeps praying for him. When he dies in a drunken fight, an angel called the General and Lucifer Jr. (Rex Ingram) argue over his soul, and Joe is sent back to Earth for six months to earn his place in heaven. Vincente Minnelli, in his first feature, stages it all as a musical fantasy.
