“The most lavish picture ever on the screen!”

Julius Caesar (Claude Rains) is an aging Roman general in the middle of a civil war, and he finds himself curious about a young Egyptian queen. Cleopatra (Vivien Leigh) is still a girl, and he sets about teaching her how to rule Egypt. Gabriel Pascal adapts George Bernard Shaw's play, and the film follows Caesar as he gives a young woman lessons in power.
