King Arthur (Richard Harris) rules a kingdom he hopes to hold together with a round table of knights, where might serves justice instead of conquest. Joshua Logan stages the songs of Lerner and Loewe against painted castles, while Arthur's illegitimate son Mordred (David Hemmings) schemes toward the throne. Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave) and Lancelot (Franco Nero) begin as strangers who dislike each other, and their growing attachment is the thing the king cannot see.
