Camp de Thiaroye
Why are men who fought for France fenced in like prisoners once the fighting is over? A platoon of Senegalese soldiers comes back from the war in 1944 and is held at Thiaroye, a desert camp with barbed wire and guard towers. Sembène and Thierno Faty Sow follow Sergeant Diatta, schooled in Paris, with a French wife and child, and Pays, who can only scream and grunt.
