Casey (Jodie Foster) is a tough American kid who gets talked into posing as the long-lost granddaughter of Lady St. Edmund (Helen Hayes), the elderly owner of an English estate called Candleshoe. The scheme belongs to Harry, an ex-con who swears a treasure is hidden somewhere inside the house. Norman Tokar sets Casey among the household's cheerful residents, and the house itself, with its clues still waiting to be followed, is what she cannot stop looking at.
