Canoa: A Shameful Memory

“A town. Vested interests. 1968: a decisive year in the history of Mexico.”

A group of students just want a place to sleep after their hiking trip, and they stop in the small town of San Miguel Canoa. The local priest (Enrique Lucero) tells his parishioners that these strangers are communist agitators on the run from the army crackdown in Mexico City. Felipe Cazals tells it as docudrama, based on the 1968 massacre, and what he shows is how quickly a town will believe a man it trusts.
