In Spain in 1518, the young nobleman Pedro De Vargas (Tyrone Power) insults his neighbor Diego De Silva (John Sutton), an officer of the Inquisition, and has to run. He leaves with his friend Juan Garcia (Lee J. Cobb) and a devoted servant girl, Catana (Jean Peters), and they sail with Hernando Cortez (Cesar Romero) toward Mexico. Henry King shot it in Technicolor on location in Michoacán, where the Parícutin volcano was erupting in the distance.
