In 1944, Captain Josiah Newman (Gregory Peck) runs Ward 7, the neuropsychiatric ward of an Army Air Corps hospital in Arizona, with little equipment and about six weeks to cure each man. His patients include a colonel cut off from his own past, a near-catatonic officer, and a young corporal haunted by his downed aircraft. David Miller shows Newman and Cpl. Jake Leibowitz (Tony Curtis) scrounging supplies, knowing every recovery sends a man back to the war.
